Whirlwind Whiz – Amazing Quarter Square Triangle Tool

I invented the Whirlwind Whiz tool to enable quilters to make 4 identical quarter square triangles from squares.  I love triangles and the whirlwind block, in particular, but I didn’t want to have to sew all those quarter square triangles together. I thought there must be a way to make them from stacked squares.  Well, after several hours in my studio and many discarded trials on the floor, the whirlwind whiz tool was born.

I hadn’t thought of myself as an inventor, but really, all quilters are inventors. We invent masterpieces with our skills and imagination. I hope the Whirlwind Whiz makes it easier for you to create those masterpieces!

Here is how the Whirlwind Whiz works.  It is very easy to use.  Also, check out this video demonstration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEEdReDlkFo

  1. Hi Tina,

You can use the Whirlwind Whiz with bigger blocks. Mark the center of the fabric squares by folding the fabric. twice Place the Whirlwind Whiz so the center of the tool lines up with the center of the fabric squares. The blue center lines on the tool should point to the corners of the squares. When you draw the lines you will be sewing on, extend them to the edges of the square.

By the way I am working on a larger Whirlwind Whiz tool. It should be available mid-August.

    Thank you for your question.
    Nancy
